Decoupage Desk!

I fixed up a desk! I love it! I found a $10 desk a local second-hand store called Secondhand Sandies here in Tallahassee. It was outside and looked like it was just a place to set things. When I spied it, it had glass jars on it. My mother-in-law just flat-out said it was ugly. BUT, it was only $10 and I needed a desk! We are moving at the end of the month and I will have room to put one! Right now, I don’t really have a place to put my things. I like to have a place to think and write and to pay the bills. I thought, with a little love, the desk could be perfect!

My sweet husband went back and helped me get the desk. I will admit, it sat under our car port until I had time to work on it. (Really, I was just being lazy.) My friend Annie helped me go to get my supplies one rainy afternoon when I couldn’t find an excuse to put it off any longer. Annie is very wonderful and just acts like everything is normal, even with my crazy kid running around. We managed to pick out spray paint at Lowe’s and scrapbook paper at Micheal’s in one afternoon! I guess I could’ve gotten the spray paint at Micheal’s, but that just seemed too easy. I like Micheal’s because they have coupons. We even had time to get burgers at Vertigo, this awesome spot with gourmet type burgers! SO yum!

Ok, on to the desk. My darling husband helped by taping the metal part. Next time, I would tape the handles differently. I realize that I should have realized that sooner. Obviously, the spray paint would not get under the tape. Just something to remember for next time. I love spray paint. I would get gloss next time as well. I sprayed the desk and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then I gave it another coat because I just think you can never have enough spray paint.

Th next day, I got to work on the decoupage! I cut out the flowers and arranged them. I put the decoupage on the part pf the paper that would attach to the desk. I then just kept glueing! I loved the flowers, but of course you can do anything you want! I have to make myself stop and not do too much! That is always my problem! Stop before it gets crazy! I put a layer of decoupage on top of the paper, too. I then put a clear gloss coat to seal everything.

I liked to layer my flowers. I made sure to not put flowers where I would actually be writing as to not disrupt my work or art. It was super fun to arrange and glue! I have decoupage fever!

After I took the tape off I discovered the problem of no paint below the tape. Duh on me. I think I fixed it by spraying a paint brush and wiping it on. If it looks honky in the morning I will figure out something else, but it looks fine right now! When creating and crafting, there is generally a way to fix and even improve on something. Just take a step back and think! I love how it turned out! This will be my place to write and create! The color inspires me. I often say I hate pink, which is slightly dramatic. I don’t hate pink when it has a purpose, like in flowers. Sometimes, I can be a girly girl! I love getting my creative juices flowing and making something mine with my own personal touches.
